The Public Sector Energy Efficiency Services Limited ie ESL is going to start the rural Ujala scheme soon with the intention of saving on electricity bills. Under this, rural families receiving Rs. 3 to 4 LED bulbs will be distributed at a cost of Rs. This will benefit about 150 million rural families across the country.

The company's managing director disclosed here today that 500 million LED bulbs will be distributed under the plan of ETSL, a joint venture of NTPC, REC, PFC, and Powergrid under the Ministry of Power. They are estimated to save 12,000 MW of electricity. It will also reduce carbon emissions by 50 million tons annually.

Under the UJALA program, the company has so far distributed more than Rs 36 crore at the rate of Rs 70 per LED bulb, though only 20 percent of the bulbs have been distributed in rural areas. The remaining 80 percent of the bulbs are distributed in urban areas.



He said that these certificates are in demand in developed countries. In those countries, it will sell these certificates and charge the price of LED bulbs. The company director said that the distribution of 500 million LED bulbs in villages across the country would reduce the emission of 12,000 MW of electricity, besides saving Rs 25,000 to 30,000 crore annually on consumers' electricity bills.

The rural lighting program will be launched by the power companies, under which more than 20,000 crores of LED bulbs will be distributed within India, which will also benefit every village in Gujarat.

To get benefits under this scheme, you will have to collect three old LED bulbs and you will be given three to four LED bulbs per household.
