The Festival of Raksha Bandhan

Raksha Bandhan Das is a Hindu festival celebrated in India on the tenth day of the month of Vaishakh. The festival is celebrated by Hindus of all religious backgrounds to bless their sisters with kind care and goodwill and to wish them a long life. The history of Rakshabandhan is as old as Hinduism.

It is said that during the Harappan culture in India, the Raksha were naturally evil and they ruled the place by subduing the sisters. The sisters had no way out and were living in misery in their own country. Thus, during that time, it is believed that Vishwamitra army shi came with his army and killed all the guards who did not treat the sisters properly.

How to celebrate the festival of Rakshabandhan

Rakshabandhan is a festival of brothers and sisters. It is celebrated on the full moon day of August, as the Indian lunar calendar is based on the lunar month of the Hindu lunar polar calendar. The festivities begin on a gray evening and continue for five days. It begins with a special meal of prasad (prasad is a sacred prasad given to the gods and goddesses) and sweets made by the sisters.

A traditional Rakhi gift is a dessert to a brother. The mother traditionally takes the initiative in preparing the prasad and makes a special decoction to serve the prasad. Prasad is served with red rice or millet dal. The main dish offered to God is usually puri and chole.

What is Rakshabandhan

Rakshabandhan is a festival of uniting brothers and sisters. It is a way of giving a gift to your brother. The brother has to give the sister a garland made of his own hands and Nath. In return, the sister ties the ashes on the brother's wrist. Each rakhi is tied to the wrist with its blood and the red chili powder is also sweetened.

The celebration begins the day before the Rakshabandhan and is called 'Purnima'. The day before the feast is the day to receive the blessing of the brother. It also marks the appearance of a new moon. Rakshabandhan Rituals Raksha Bandhan rituals begin with a visit to the temple to pray to Goddess Saraswati, the symbol of knowledge.
